YCBK 305: Seeking gender balance, some selective colleges give men a leg up in admissions [Transcript]

  • I appreciated the discussion about gender balance. With a high school junior daughter and 8th grade son, I am continually surprised to see the vast majority of colleges we are looking at for my daughter have much higher ratios of girls to boys and while this might be a topic for another podcast, it begs the larger the question of what is going on with our boys? It seems in some of the data I am reading, less boys are applying to college. So, if that is the case, the colleges have a smaller pool of boys from which to accept. I wonder if you could dig in deeper to this issue or perhaps recommend some other resources that are looking at this issue. What can we do to encourage and support our boys to pursue higher education?
