Interview 19: Nancy Beane on “How much weight to put on prestige”
This week’s interview is with Nancy Beane, the recent president of the National Association of College Admission Counselors (NACAC) and the current Associate Director of College Counseling at the Westminster Schools in Atlanta. Nancy brings over 40 years of experience in teaching and college placement to our discussion. Nancy and Mark are discussing how much emphasis should be placed on prestige while selecting a college. Some of the topics Mark and Nancy discuss are: 1) Is too much or too little emphasis put on prestige? 2) How do you know when it is worth it to pay more for a college because of their prestige 3) Does prestige matter more for certain majors than for others? 4) How does local prestige vs national prestige play a role in how prestige is assessed.
